Are Apple Watches Not As Hot As The iPhone And iPad?

July 30, 2015

apple-watchApple has had enormous success in releasing new and innovative products into the market that has changed the way people live and do business. Products like the iPod, iPhone and iPad have gained global attention upon released and are used by millions of people across the globe. Apple’s smartwatch does not appear to have had the same success like previous Apple products based on the estimates of smartwatches sold or market demand.

Apple tends to release new versions of its flaghship products every year and they continue to be in high demand. Between April and June 2015, Apple sold over 47.5 million iPhones which is a 35% increase when compared to the same period in 2014. Apple’s iPad continues dominate the table market even in the midst of stiff competition.

However it’s the Apple smartwatch that has not had the impact that chief executive Tim Cook would have expected. The smartwatch market has been flooded with a number of products from various competitors and Apple has been unable to introduce unique features or set its smartwatch apart from the rest like it has successfully done with the rest of its flagship products.

Speaking about the progress of smartwatch sales, CEO Tim Cook said “We made a decision back to September not to disclose the shipments of the watch. That was not a matter of not being transparent. It was a matter of not giving our competition insight on a product we’ve worked hard on.”

Industry analysts have not bought into Tim Cook’s explanation and believe that approximately 3 million smartwatches have been sold which is way below Apple’s expectations.
